The main topic of this paper is the digital literacy of people of the Third age, where the concept of the Third age will be presented based on the relevant literature, with an emphasis on the role of digital literacy in the lives of people of the Third age. In the introductory part, the goals of the paper will be stated and terms such as active aging and lifelong learning will be explained in more detail. Furthermore, the concepts of digital and information literacy are important for this paper, therefore, by consulting relevant articles, their definitions will be presented and the difference between these two concepts will be emphasized. Numerous statistical reports that indicate trends in the continuous aging of the European population will also be analyzed. The demographic picture of the European population, including the Croatian population, clearly shows that there is a non-negligible part of the elderly population in the total population, and therefore the paper will point out the lack of concrete educational policies aimed at people of the Third age. Another characteristic of modern society is the lack of connection between younger generations and older people. One of the main causes of the generational gap, as well as the gray digital gap, are stereotypes about older people. Stereotypes not only negatively affect the self-perception of elderly people, but also deepen the gap, putting older people on the margins of the social community. The paper will talk about these stereotypes, as well as ways to overcome them. In the end, since many obstacles and challenges are often encountered during the learning process, it is important to talk about the challenges of digital literacy for people of the Third age. The most common challenges such as language barriers and resistance to the use of modern technologies will be presented.
