The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between perceived stress, coping with stress, and personality traits. Besides examining the relationship of above mentioned variables, this research tried to determine predictive validity of coping styles with stress and personality traits in explaining perceived stress, as well as ability to predict various coping styles based on personality traits. The study was conducted on 190 students' second and third grade of secondary medical school, direction of a nurse / medical technician. At the hour of classroom community participants filled Big Five Inventory, then Perceived stress scale, and Coping Inventory for Adolescents. Hierarchical regression analysis in which the predictors of perceived stress in the first step used personality traits, and the second step, coping styles showed that neuroticism was the only significant predictor of perceived stress. Results of hierarchical regression analysis also shows that after controlling personality traits, coping styles does not significantly contribute to perceived stress. Furthermore, the results indicate that personality predicts all three styles of coping with stress. Specifically, neuroticism significantly contributes to emotion-focused coping and avoidance, while conscientiousness predicts avoidance coping and problem-focused coping. Extraversion and agreeableness are important predictors of emotion-focused coping, and openness to experience significantly contributes to the problem-focused coping. Although the results do not fully confirm all previous assumptions, they suggest that personality is a very important factor in the experience of stress and coping with stress.
