Abstract
Cilj rada bio je ispitati učinke doživljaja stigmatizacije na temelju tjelesne težine na probleme mentalnog zdravlja kod adolescenata te provjeriti medijacijsku ulogu samopoštovanja u tom odnosu. Uzorak se sastojao od 396 učenika srednjih škola u Osijeku i Požegi, a korišteni su sljedeći instrumenti: Upitnik o doživljaju stigmatizacije na temelju tjelesne težine (konstruiran za potrebe ovog istraživanja), Rosenbergova skala samopoštovanja (Rosenberg, 1965) i Skala depresivnosti, anksioznosti i stresa (Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale – DASS; Lovibond Lovibond, 1995). Rezultati hijerarhijskih regresijskih analiza pokazali su da doživljaj stigmatizacije na temelju tjelesne težine predviđa simptome anksioznosti te također sugeriraju da je taj efekt posredovan sniženim samopoštovanjem. Doživljaj stigmatizacije na temelju tjelesne težine je predviđao simptome depresivnosti, a taj efekt je također bio posredovan sniženim samopoštovanjem. Konačno, doživljaj stresa mogao se predvidjeti na temelju doživljaja stigmatizacije na temelju tjelesne težine dok sniženo samopoštovanje djelomično posreduje u odnosu doživljaja stigmatizacije i simptoma stresa.
Abstract (english)
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of body-weight stigmatization on mental health problems in adolescents and the mediational role of self-esteem in that relationship. The sample consisted of 396 high school students (from Osijek and Požega). Following instruments were used: Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965), Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (Lovibond i Lovibond, 1995) and Body-weight stigmatization questionnaire (Upitnik o doživljaju stigmatizacije na temelju težine). Results of three seperate hierarchical regression analyses suggest that body-weight stigmatization predicts anxiety, depression and stress symptoms. Self-esteem has a mediation role in relationship of body-weight stigmatization, anxiety and depression symptoms while only partial mediation is present in relationship between body-weight stigmatization and stress.
