Abstract
In dieser Abschlussarbeit beschäftige ich mich mit einem der wichtigsten Romane aus der Sturm-und-Drang-Periode − Die Leiden des jungen Werthers von Johann Wolfgang Goethe. Zu Beginn der Arbeit präsentiere ich die wichtigsten Ereignisse aus dem Leben des Autors und beschreibe, wie der Roman entstanden ist. Danach schildere ich die Poetik des Sturm-und-Drangs, stelle das Phänomen des Werther-Fiebers sowie das Verständnis des Selbstmordes im 18. Jahrhundert vor. Im Hauptteil der Arbeit setzte ich mich mit der Funktion von Werthers Selbstmord in Goethes Roman aus. Ich analysiere den Charakter der Hauptgestalt, seine Beziehung zu Lotte und seine Position in der Gesellschaft als mögliche Faktoren, die zu Werthers Suizid führten. Aus der durchgeführten Analyse ist zu schließen, dass Werthers Selbstmord eine aufklärende Funktion hat. Er soll auf die Missstände und Probleme innerhalb der feudalen Gesellschaft sowie auf die fehlerhafte Wertvorstellungen der Bürgerlichen hinweisen. Der Selbstmord des Romanprotagonisten ist als einzige Handlungsweise anzusehen, wodurch es ihm gelingt, die Autonomie des Menschen, diesen zentralen Wert der Sturm-und-Drang-Poetik, zu bestätigen.
Abstract (croatian)
U završnom radu bavim se jednim od najpoznatijih romana iz tzv. Sturm-und-Drangrazdoblja u njemačkoj književnosti – s Goetheovim romanom Patnje mladog Werthera. Na početku rada predstavljaju se najvažniji događaji iz autorova života te se opisuje nastanak romana. Potom slijedi prikaz poetike „Sturm-und-Dranga“ te se predstavlja fenomen „Werther-groznice“, kao i poimanje samoubojstva u 18. stoljeću. U glavnome dijelu razmatra se funkcija Wertherova samoubojstva u Goetheovom romanu, i to na osnovu analize karaktera glavnog lika, njegove veze s Lottom i položaja u društvu kao mogućih faktora koji su doveli do Wertherova samoubojstva. Na temelju provedene analize moguće je zaključiti da Wertherovo samoubojstvo posjeduje prosvjetiteljsku funkciju. Tim se motivom želi ukazati na nepovoljne društvene okolnosti i probleme koji vladaju u feudalnom društvu, kao i na nedostatne vrijednosne predodžbe građanskoga društva. Samoubojstvo protagonista romana moguće je sagledati kao jedini način djelovanja putem kojeg Wertheru polazi za rukom da potvrdi autonomiju čovjeka, tu središnju vrijednost „Sturm-undDrang“-poetike.
