The purpose of this study was to examine if there are any differences in assessments of the quality of life and health of athletes with disabilities considering the type and onset of disability and the amount of time spent in doing sports and to examine the contribution of socio-demographic and health indicators to overall quality of life of athletes with disabilities. In this study 73 participants with disability, involved in different types of sports,were examined. Personal wellbeing index, which is provided for the assessment of subjective quality of life, and WHOQOL-Brief questionnaire, that is developed by World Health Organization and consists of four domains: physical health, psychological domain, social relationships and environment, were used to assess the quality of life and health status. Findings suggest that there are no significant differences in the assessments of overall quality of life considering the type of disability. Results on WHOQOL-Brief questionnaire suggest that participants with hearing impairment find their physical health to be better than participants with physical disability. Likewise, participants with congenital disability achieved higher scores in physical health domain and community-connectedness, than participants with acquired disability. Differences considering the amount of time spent in doing sports are significant in psychological and environment domains; moreover participants who spent less time doing sports have achieved higher scores in these domains than those who are involved in sports for a longer time. Social relationships and environment are shown to be significant predictors of overall quality of life. Reasons for the participation in sports, activities for which the sport has the most positive effect on and factors that facilitate or impede participation in sport have been identified.
