Abstract
Osnovni je cilj ovog istraživanja bio ispitati povezanost zadovoljstva tijelom i indeksa tjelesne mase, socio-ekonomskog statusa, samopoštovanja, perfekcionizma, stupnja fizičke aktivnosti, te pritisaka i internalizacije sociokulturalnih stavova prema izgledu na mladićima (n = 126) i djevojkama (n = 164) u dobi od 18 do 30 godina. Zadovoljstvo izgledom je mjereno kao diskrepanca stvarne i idealne figure tijela. Rezultati potvrđuju hipotezu da je kod djevojaka sa zadovoljstvom tijelom pozitivno povezano samopoštovanje, a negativno povezani ITM, perfekcionizam, pritisci i internalizacija sociokulturalnih stavova prema izgledu, dok je kod mladića zadovoljstvo tijelom negativno povezano s internalizacijom sociokulturalnih stavova prema izgledu. Suprotno pretpostavljenom, zadovoljstvo tijelom nije povezano sa stupnjem fizičke aktivnosti ni kod jednog spola, a samopoštovanje, ITM, perfekcionizam i pritisci sociokulturalnih stavova prema izgledu nisu povezani sa zadovoljstvom tijelom kod mladića. Rezultati potvrđuju pretpostavku da djevojke izražavaju manje zadovoljstvo tijelom od mladića. Nadalje, kao značajni negativni prediktori zadovoljstva tijelom pokazali su se spol (ženski) i ITM. Također, dobiven je značajni interakcijski efekt spola i ITM-a, pri čemu se kod djevojaka porastom ITM-a smanjuje zadovoljstvo tijelom više nego kod mladića. U radu se raspravlja o mogućim objašnjenjima dobivenih rezultata.
Abstract (english)
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between body satisfaction and body mass index, socio-economic status, self-esteem, perfectionism, physical activity, pressures and internalization of sociocultural attitudes towards appearance among males (n = 126) and females (n = 164) aged 18 - 30. Body satisfaction was measured as a discrepancy between current and ideal body figure. As hypothesized, results show that for young women body satisfaction is positively correlated with self-esteem and negatively correlated with BMI, perfectionism, pressures and internalization of sociocultural attitudes towards appearance, while for young men body satisfaction negatively correlates with internalization of sociocultural attitudes towards appearance. Opposite to what was hypothesized, results show that for both genders body satisfaction does not correlate with physical activity, whereas for young men self-esteem, BMI, perfectionism and pressures towards sociocultural attitudes do not correlate with body satisfaction. The results confirm the hypothesis that young women are less satisfied with their bodies than young men. Gender (female) and BMI are negative predictors of body satisfaction. Moreover, results show significant interaction effect of gender and BMI where less satisfaction with the body is reported as the BMI grows, and that effect is stronger for females. The possible clarifications of the results are discussed.
