Abstract
Proučavanje alegorije svodi se na njezinu trostrukost, zastupljenost na retoričko-stilskome, hermeneutičkome i književno-žanrovskome polju. Nakon kraćeg pregleda povijesti, o alegoriji se govori kao o figuri i tumačenju. Naglasak će biti na vremenska razdoblja koja obuhvaća srednji vijek i suvremenost. U srednjem vijeku važnost alegorije odnosi se tumačenje biblijskih tekstova, a s tim je povezan pojam egzegeze. U novijim shvaćanjima tumačenje je vezano za čitatelja, odnosno čitanje i interpretaciju.
