Abstract
In dieser Arbeit wird die Novelle Bahnwärter Thiel von Gerhart Hauptmann, dem deutschen Vertreter des Naturalismus analysiert. Diese Novelle ist in der Literaturepoche des Naturalismus entstanden, was, unter anderem, auch auf Basis des darin benutzten Leitmotivs der Industrialisierung festzustellen ist. Das literarische Werk handelt über das Leben eines Menschen der Mittelschicht, der auf der neuentstandenen Bahnstrecke als Bahnwärter arbeitet, was sich deutlich auf sein Leben wiederspiegelt. Schlechte Arbeits- und Lebensbedingungen sind einige der Merkmale der industriellen Revolution, die oft als literarisches Thema im Naturalismus erscheinen, die auch in dieser Abschlussarbeit hervorgehoben werden. Im theoretischen Teil dieser Abschlussarbeit werden die drei Hauptbegriffe - Naturalismus, Novelle und Industrialisierung - definiert, sowie die Biographie des Autors wiedergegeben, welcher der Inhalt des Werks im Analytischem Kapitel folgt. Danach werden im selben Kapitel die Darstellungen der Industrialisierung in der Novelle vorgestellt und der Untergang der Hauptfigur analysiert, was im Kontext des Naturalismus ferner beschrieben wird. Zudem folgen das Schlusswort und Literaturverzeichnis.
