Osijek is a city whose speakers use the Neo-Shtokavian four-accent system in their regional dialect, which is similar to the standard but marked by quite specific and discernible accent features making it fairly different from the standard. The accent of the Osijek dialect has been described by Mislav Benić (2007), but so far there has been no detailed research of the Osijek accent system. Therefore, this thesis describes the accent of Osijek speakers as a part of the four-accent Neo-Shtokavian iekavian dialect with the emphasis on 1) the place of accent in loanwords, spoken words with proclitics, and the nouns in plural genitive and 2) phonetic realisations of the lexical accents in regard to the tone movement, the average length of accented and post-accented vowels, and the post-accentual lengths. The place of accent was analysed using the listening method, whereas the movement and the length of the accented and post-accented vowels and the (non)-realisation of the post-accentual length were analysed using the listening and the acoustic method. The results of both analyses were then compared. The research encompassed 90 speakers from Osijek, divided into three groups by age. The analysis uncovered the specific features of accent for the three groups, which were then compared to find similarities and differences between the accent features of people of different age groups. The aim was to establish the possible changes in accent in the speech of Osijek. The results of the analysis of the place of accent and the accent in plural genitive of nouns, as well as the tone movement and the length of accented and post-accented vowels, were compared to the results of the analysis of a referent speaker of Croatian neutral accent. Results of the analysis of the post-accentual lengths were compared to the results of the analysis of a referent speaker when she produced the prescribed post-accentual lengths, and when she purposefully did not produce it. This enabled insight into the similarities and differences of the accent system of Osijek speech and the neutral variant of the Croatian accent, as well as the Croatian proscribed standard accent.
