As across the world as in Croatia, more and more organizations are realizing how important employee well-being is for their competitive advantage. It has been shown that tired and exhausted employees cannot be engaged and usually show unwanted behaviors such as going on sick leave or turnover. Till now, there is no much research in Croatia on the need for recovery and on recovery experience, so the aim of this study was to examine the relationships between need for recovery, burnout, recovery experience, engagement and well-being. In the main processing of this research only 271 people were included. As instruments were included UWES-9, The Oldenburg Burnout Inventory, The need for recovery scale, The recovery experience questionnaire, Psychological Well-being Scale, Measures of affective experiences and The Personal Well-being Index. The results of the correlation analysis showed that people with a higher burnout rate were less engaged, less satisfied with life, and experienced more unpleasant emotions and affect. They also had a greater need for recovery and to a lesser extent experienced recovery strategies. In contrast, people who reported a higher rate of recovery also in general gave a higher estimates of psychological and subjective well-being and assessed themselves as more engaged. As predictors of work engagement, The need for recovery, detachment, skills, and control (dimensions of the The Recovery Experience Questionnaire) and pleasant affects proved to be significant, until the last block did not include the dimensions of burnout, leaving Disengagement as the only significant negative predictor.
