Abstract	This paper contains two parts. The first part offers various definitions of the word translation. Furthermore the translation process and the notion of translation equivalence are discussed and an overview of the translation strategies that are the most common follows. At the end of the paper, there is a review on translating phraseology and its difficulties. The second part of the paper deals with the analysis of translating Croatian phraseology into English. The examples are divided into five groups of strategies that were used to translate phraseological units in the works of Dubravka Ugrešić from Croatian into English. The results show the similarities and differences of the Croatian and English phraseology.
