Abstract
Romeo und Julia sind wohl das bekannteste unglückliche, junge Liebespaar der Literaturgeschichte. Die Geschichte von ihnen kann man in vielen Büchern, Musikkompositionen und Verfilmungen betrachten. Ihre Liebe steht von Anfang an unter einem schlechten Stern; weil ihre Familien verfeindet sind, werden sie am gemeinsamen Glück gehindert. Diese Liebe ist unglücklich und führt zum Selbstmord. Keller beschreibt uns parallel zur unglücklichen Liebesgeschichte auch den Niedergang der Eltern, die sich am Ende nicht versöhnen, was bei Shakespeare umgekehrt ist. Shakespear's Paar geht an einem Irrtum zugrunde; wegen zahlreicher unglücklicher Umstände und Missverstände begehen beide den Selbstmord, aber Keller’s Paar dagegen, wollte keinen Ausweg finden und war sich von Anfang an sicher, dass diese Liebe kein glückliches Ende haben kann.
